Perfect Dark is a 2000 first-person shooter video game developed and published by Rare for the Nintendo 64. The story follows the espionage mission of a Carrington Institute agent as she investigates and attempts to put an end to the extraterrestrial schemes of dataDyne Corporation. According to the box of the game, without the N64 Expansion Pak, players only have access to approximately 35% of the game, which is just the Multiplayer Challenges, the 1-2 player Combat Simulator, and access to up to eight computer-controlled Simulants.

As a spiritual successor to the critical and commercial success that is GoldenEye 007, the two share plenty of similarities in gameplay, but Perfect Dark runs on an upgraded game engine and is regarded as one of the most technologically advanced games for the Nintendo 64 console. Video gaming publications took notice of this, and together with its more dynamic sound and graphics, polished gameplay, and massive content (with the N64 Expansion Pak), the title was highly acclaimed, won prestigious awards, and was once part of IGN's Top 100 Games of All Time. Commercially, it sold 3.2 million copies worldwide.
