Developed and published by Humongous Entertainment, Pajama Sam: No Need to Hide When It’s Dark Outside is a 1996 children’s adventure puzzle game that utilizes point-and-click mechanics. It is the first in the main series of four games starring Pajama Sam. The game was originally released on Macintosh and Windows but has since been ported to the Nintendo Wii, iOS, Linux, Android, and Steam.

The story in Pajama Sam: No Need To Hide When It’s Dark Outside follows the titular character, a boy named Sam, who cannot sleep because of his overwhelming fear of the dark. Sam is inspired by the comic book superhero, Pajama Man, to put on a mask and go on a quest to resolve his fears by confronting Darkness itself.

Traveling through his closet into the Land of Darkness, Sam’s adventures lead him through a river and a lava-filled mine where he befriends a boat and a mine cart. Eventually, Sam comes face-to-face with Darkness for a final confrontation.

Pajama Sam: No Need To Hide When It’s Dark Outside sold nearly three million units and won over four dozen awards. The game received critical acclaim at release and went on to spawn three sequel video games in the main Pajama Sam series, and even a series of children’s books.
